Employment
Researcher.
Necessity/Sustainability Health Environment Development.
2021 - 2024
'Drawing as Stimming' project. Practice-led research testing, implementing and disseminating disabled-led approaches to inclusive curation in the museum and gallery context. The project's focus on 'stimming' (an often-stigmatised neurodivergent practice of interacting with the environment through repetitive sound and/or movement) as a radical and equal alternative to verbal interpretation has been developed by me with the support of neurodivergent specialists. As well as contracting and directing these specialists, the project has involved liaising with organisational stakeholders alongside members of the public, including schools, museums, universities and other commissioners. Due to my strong project management and administration skills, this work has exceeded its engagement targets, with the workshops I have undertaken so far engaging 1,500 neurodivergent adults and children. Its impact is enhanced by the support it has received from leading national arts and health organisations, such as Scottish Autism Network, Big Draw and The Wellcome Collection. The next phase of the project (2024), will be to document the work to date through the creation of a web archive available as a resource to support practitioners and organisations attempting inclusive curation.
